pro|noun «PROH nown», noun.
1. a word used to indicate without naming; word used instead of a noun. In “John did not like to go because he was sick,” he is a pronoun used in the second part of the sentence to avoid repeating John.
2. the part of speech or form class to which such words belong. Examples: I, we, you, he, it, and they are personal pronouns; my, mine, your, yours, his, our, ours, their, and theirs are possessive pronouns; who, whose, which, and whatever are interrogative pronouns; who, that, which, and what are also relative pronouns; this and that are demonstrative pronouns or pronominal adjectives; each, every, either, and neither are distributive pronouns or pronominal adjectives; any, some, one, other, another, and none are indefinite personal or possessive pronouns or indefinite pronominal adjectives.
